Loving the Most Handsome Man in the Capital Novel - Chapter 287
287. He’s a Homicidal Maniac?
“Ge? Why are you here?” Mo Wei was amazed to see Yuan Ge in this house.
“I’ve been here for quite some time.” Yuan Ge did not confide to Mo Wei that he was working for someone in this place. Recalling Pei Rong’s crying during the phone conversation just now, he felt somewhat fretful.
“Aunt Mo, you still haven’t told me why you came here,” Yuan Ge added.
“I came here to seek help from Spiritual Master Mu. I need to find the homicidal maniac to clear Rong of his charges. Ge, help me convince Spiritual Master Mu to help. You’re so well acquainted with Rong, and I’m sure you know he would never commit murder, let alone mass murder of so many people!” Mo Wei said, gripping Yuan Ge’s arm.
Yuan Ge said with a bob of his head, “Just now Rong gave me a phone call and told me about this matter. Rest assured, Aunt Mo, I’ll get him out of those charges.”
“Thank you, Ge. You’re Rong’s only friend. And now you’re the only one who can help him,” Mo Wei said gratefully.
Though Yuan Ge had not said anything about convincing Mu Yun to help, Mo Wei knew that since Yuan Ge had agreed to help, he would definitely honor his promise, that all she needed to do was go back home and wait.
When she had left, Yuan Ge looked at Mu Yun and began, “One of my relatives’ son was killed by that homicidal maniac a year ago. I’ve been trying to track down that lunatic for a whole year, but so far I’ve found nothing. Childe Mu, you’re a very keen observer. I’m sure you can find some clues, the ones that nobody else could see. Please offer me some help.”
“How do you know I’m a keen observer?” Mu Yun had all along been curious as to how Yuan Ge had come to show up out of nowhere, seemingly intending to serve Luo Feng all his life.
And now Yuan Ge was talking as though he knew him well, which was why he, Mu Yun, became suspicious despite himself.
Yuan Ge immediately lapsed into silence, making no reply.
With an airy wave of his hand, Luo Feng instructed Yuan Ge to leave. Then he turned to look at Mu Yun only to see the latter spitefully twisted his head aside, indicating that he was not in the mood for talking to him.
Luo Feng, smiling, moved closer to Mu Yun. “You’re mad at me?”
“Is there anything you’re not telling me about Yuan Ge?” Mu Yun asked.
“As far as I remember, Yuan Ge was my subordinate in one of my previous incarnations. I had another subordinate besides him. I was surprised he didn’t come here with Yuan Ge, but afterward Yuan Ge told me that he had betrayed me,” Luo Feng answered honestly.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. He was your sidekick only in one of your previous incarnations. How come he’s still willing to serve you in this one?” Mu Yun said in astonishment.
“Actually I’m not sure it’s a previous incarnation of mine. Anyway, my memories of those things have always been quite blurry, otherwise I wouldn’t have kept this back from you. It’s just even I myself haven’t figured out what’s going on exactly,” Luo Feng replied.
“I see … Are you absolutely sure this Yuan Ge guy is trustworthy? Do you think it’s possible one of your foes sent him here to spy on you?” Mu Yun inquired.
“That’s impossible,” Luo Feng said firmly. Then he looked at Mu Yun and asked, “What do you think of this whole homicidal maniac thing? Should we help them?”
“We should,” Mu Yun answered.
After lunch, Yuan Ge took Mu Yun and the others to the home of that relative of his to get more information about the murder.
As it had been a year since the murder, they were unable to get any details about it from the victim’s family through inquiry. Many clues had long since disappeared.
They asked some questions but failed to acquire any possible leads.
Next, Mu Yun visited another few victims’ families. On hearing that he was looking into the mass murder that happened yesterday, they unhesitatingly told Mu Yun everything they knew.
All of them, at the end of their conversations with Mu Yun, expressed hope that he would find the homicidal maniac.
“Did you find anything?” Luo Feng asked.
Mu Yun shook his head. “I want to go to the Ghoo clan and check.”
“But Lord Zi has been waiting for you in the Ghoo clan. Wouldn’t you be playing right into his hands if you go there?” Yuan Ge cautioned.
“You think the reason why I haven’t visited the Ghoo clan yet is because I’m afraid of being caught by that Zi Mu guy?” Mu Yun asked, looking at Yuan Ge.
Yuan Ge kept silent.
Mu Yun said, “Let’s go.”
In the Ghoo clan’s territory.
Pei Lin sat down hard onto the ground, covering her cheek with her hand, tear-soaked, looking at Zi Mu standing in front of her, unable to believe that the elegant, equable-looking young man had just slapped her face.
“Lord Zi, please give me another chance. I promise I’ll bring you Mu Yun.” Pei Lin, now on her knees, pleaded with Zi Mu again and again.
Zi Mu suddenly crouched down and, gazing into Pei Lin’s eyes, asked, “You have feelings for me?”
For an instant Pei Lin was astonished by the certainty in his tone, and then her face flushed red. Though fully aware that this young man was very dangerous and would never love her, she still inclined her head in spite of herself.
“You want to sleep with me?” was Zi Mu’s next question.
Pei Lin’s heart suddenly started racing, her eyes fixed on Zi Mu, but what he said next made her feel as though a bucketful of ice had cascaded into her stomach.
“But the very sight of you makes me sick. I don’t like women. I have eyes only for that man, but he doesn’t feel the same way about me. It’s okay, though, because I have no intention to let my feelings for him stay this way. Now the only thing I want to do is make him suffer.”
Pei Lin, her face ghastly white, watched as Zi Mu drew himself up to his full height and continued, “The instant I recovered my memories, I came to find out that after so many incarnations, I still had feelings for him, and he, likewise, after so many incarnations still had no feelings for me. I remember that before entering the cycle of incarnation, I Sealed my memories and swore if I met him again, I would not develop any feelings for him, that I’d only torture him.
Three incarnations – I tried to separate the two of them in three previous incarnations. In the first one I had one of them killed shortly after their first meeting; in the second one, I had him kill his lover by hitting him with his car, and at the same time I tried to force myself into falling love with another person, so as to transfer my affections and stop loving him, but it … didn’t seem to work so well; in the third incarnation, I drove a wedge between them by gifting his lover with a woman, believing that they would definitely break up, but eventually he ended up being put under house arrest by his lover! The results were not exactly the same as what I had expected, but at least they didn’t get to be together in the third incarnation.”
A vicious expression suddenly appeared on Zi Mu’s face as he finished these words, and with that he resumed, “But some interfering son of a bitch sent us back in time to the three previous incarnations and had all the mistakes rectified! I swear I’ll wring their neck when I find out who that jackass is!
But I also have to thank them, because I wouldn’t have recovered my memories had they not sent me back in time to the three incarnations. Now that I’ve regained my memory, there’s no way I’ll fall for him again. I’ll torture him! I’ll have him know that rejecting me was the biggest mistake of his life!”
“Th–The one you have feelings for is Mu Yun?” Pei Lin finally cottoned on.
Zi Mu smiled, “You’re mistaken. I don’t have feelings for him anymore. Understand?”
Pei Lin came to realize that the man before her was horrible, even more horrible than the homicidal maniac that people out there believed was at large.
Wait … The homicidal maniac …
Was he by any chance …
As this thought crossed her mind, Pei Lin’s face blanched further and she found herself backing away involuntarily.
No wonder today this man struck her as a little different from the last time she’d seen him. She felt that he had become somewhat evil, that his whole being was emanating a sinister air.
Suddenly, Zi Mu applied a stranglehold on Pei Lin. He could break her neck in a split second.
However, at this moment, someone materialized out of thin air beside him and said, “Please let me handle this beauty, Lord Zi. Look how beautiful and young she is. Her flesh makes the favorite nourishment of my baby Gu worms.”
Zi Mu pushed her to the woman and then produced a handkerchief to wipe his hand on it, as though he had just touched something filthy.
“No, Lord Zi! The–There’s a lot of things I can do for you! Give me the word and I’ll get it done! Please don’t give me to her! I don’t want to be eaten by worms!”
The prospect of being fed to Gu worms threw Pei Lin into horror. She kept struggling and begging in the hope that Zi Mu would change his mind. However, Zi Mu did not even glance at her. Before long, Pei Lin was knocked out by the woman in black and taken away.
Before leaving, the woman in black said, “Lord Zi, the next time you want a beauty taken care of, remember to let me do the honor. You owe me that much.”
“Beat it!” Zi Mu flared.
With a grin, the woman in black immediately vanished into thin air.
…
This was Mu Yun’s first time entering the territory of the Ghoo clan, and the scenery struck him as pretty enjoyable. Ancient dwelling places were everywhere. There were also houses of modern style, but not many.
He wandered around for about half an hour before he had Yuan Ge lead him to the victims’ families, intending to see if he could find any useful information through inquiry. Apart from everything else, most of those who were killed yesterday were from the Ghoo clan.
They first arrived at the front gates of a very large ancient residence. This house must have a pretty long history, because it appeared to be of respectable antiquity, but it was also resplendent. Its architectural style was typical of wealthy families in ancient times.
“This is a very rich family?” Mu Yun asked, looking at Yuan Ge standing beside him.
“Yeah. The patriarch is second to only the clan headman in terms of status. He’s not only loaded but also quite influential,” Yuan Ge replied.
“I see. No wonder,” Mu Yun smiled.
“What do you mean?” Yuan Ge was confused.
Luo Feng next to them pointed over the residence and explained, “There’s very thick Yin Qi and Yuan Qi in this place, which means those living in this house have a lot of blood on their hands!”
“Is he the homicidal maniac, by any chance?” Yuan Ge immediately asked.
“No. The point Feng’s trying to make is that the patriarch’s father, grandfather and his father before him owed too many blood debts, which might be the very reason why someone in this family got killed. Retributive justice, you know,” Mu Yun said. “Who’s the victim?”
“The patriarch’s son. He was twenty three,” Yuan Ge answered.
“Knock,” Mu Yun said.
Yuan Ge promptly walked up to the gates and knocked. Soon the gates were opened and with that the sound of more than one person crying was heard. Clearly they were grieving over their newly deceased family member.
The one who opened the gates was also wearing white clothes and a white kerchief.
At the sight of the couple of people standing outside, the man asked, “Who are you?”
“We’re here to offer our condolences to the family of Childe Pei.” The name of the patriarch’s murdered son was Pei Kun. After hearing Yuan Ge’s words, the man nodded and hastened to usher them in.
They walked all the way to the mourning hall, paid tribute and then seated themselves on the side. It was after the burial that they found the patriarch and explained the reason for their visit.
